About Us

The Kerrisdale Veterinary Hospital first opened it's doors in 1946 as a "Dog Clinic" making it one of the oldest continuously operating Veterinary facilities in Vancouver. Over the years it has been a stable and reliable institution for animal care in Vancouver serving clients from all over the lower mainland to as far as the Yukon territories.
Dr. James Dodds assumed the stewardship of the Hospital in the late 1960's following a five year position as the Veterinary Medical Director of a large pharmaceutical company which was pioneering the use of inhalation anesthesia in small animal practice. Since 2003, the hospital has been operated by Dr. Michael Dodds providing the continuity of care only possible by a family run, second generation business. Dr. Michael Dodds grew up in Kerrisdale attending both Kerrisdale elementary and Point Grey secondary schools prior to attending the University of British Columbia. At UBC, Dr. Dodds was awarded a bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in Animal Science. Subsequently, he attended the University of Glasgow, in Scotland, where he received a bachelor of Veterinary medicine and surgery, thereby becoming a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) in 2000.
Senior associate Dr. Janette Craven, an accomplished equestrian specializing in dressage, graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon following undergraduate work in UBC. Dr. Craven spent her first year in a mixed veterinary practice prior to joining the Kerrisdale Veterinary hospital and has been providing excellence in companion animal medicine & surgery ever since.
Dr. James Dodds rounds out our professional staff, he has been a pillar of the Vancouver Veterinary community for over 40 years. He, therefore, has a wealth of knowledge only governed by experience and provides a vital foundation onto which the hospital builds to the future.
