About us...
The
hospital has been providing veterinary care to Vancouver since it opened in 1946
as a "Dog Clinic" in the village of Kerrisdale. Hospital Director Dr.
James S. Dodds graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at Guelph, Ontario.
He spent 5 years as Veterinary Medical Director of a large pharmaceutical
company prior to acquiring over 30 years of experience in small animal medicine
and surgery. Dr. Janette Craven, an accomplished equestrian, graduated
from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in
1977. She worked for one year in mixed animal practice prior to joining us
at Kerrisdale. Dr. Michael Dodds is the newest member of our professional
staff, growing up in Kerrisdale and attending Point Grey secondary school.
He has a bachelor of science from the University of British Columbia and a
veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow with merit given in small
animal medicine and surgery, thereby becoming a member of the Royal College of
Veterinary Surgeons.
We support our community and have actively participated in student placement/work experience programs with local secondary schools as well as in fund raising efforts of the Arthritis Society and the British Columbia Children's Hospital. Dr. Michael Dodds has also participated in the Greater Vancouver Regional Districts "Dog Day Afternoon" in pacific spirit park and at the University of British Columbia's Agricultural Sciences career planning evening where students are able to network and ask questions of professionals in several fields.
Joy, our office manager joined us in 1991 after many years in animal related fields. She is a certified groomer and has bred Bullmastiffs and Borders Terriers. She is also a Life member of the Canadian Kennel Club.
Carrie has worked at
Kerrisdale for 14 years as a receptionist and veterinary assistant. During
this time she has gotten to know many clients and pets which helps create a
"home away from home" environment for any pet staying with us.
Karen is the senior member of our kennel staff at Kerrisdale and for 25 years has enjoyed working and caring for all animals.
Debbie was given clippers as a child and has been grooming ever since...all type of dogs and cats for over 30 years. She has been with us since 1992.
Maya is office manager at the Aberdeen Animal Hospital in Burnaby our affiliated practice located in North Burnaby. She has qualifications as both a veterinary and a medical office assistant.
Selena started here last year and splits her time between our Kerrisdale Hospital and our Fraserview Clinic.
One of our volunteers Lauren, from a local high school, help us out with the animals and cleaning duties when she can on weekends and holidays.
