Emergency Supplies

  • for trips, knowledge of medications your animal is taking & an extra supply
  • exam gloves for you
  • small light source
  • small tweezers, forceps, hemostats (tick or splinter removal)
  • styptic pencil, for nails or other small bleeds
  • corn starch/bar soap (to stop bleeding nails)
  • Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) consult your Vet for a dose
  • Aspirin (used with caution) consult your Vet for a dose
  • Peptobismol, consult your Vet for a dose
  • table salt (to induce vomiting) consult your vet for a dose
  • Saline (plain solution for rinsing eyes or wounds)
  • sterile gauze pads (4" squares are good)
  • Telfa pads (non-stick bandages)
  • rolls of gauze or cling bandage (2"-4")
  • cotton swabs or roll cotton or Q-tips
  • bandage scissors
  • maxi pads (for large wounds during transport to a hospital)
  • antibacterial soap (hibitane, stanhexidine, betadine)
  • antibacterial ointment (polysporin)
  • syringes (3/12/20/60cc)
  • bags or containers for sample collection (urine, vomit, feces)
  • muzzle that fits your animal (animals in pain may bite even though you are trying to help)
