Pet Vaccinations in Vancouver
At Kerrisdale Veterinary Hospital, We believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. That’s why we offer a full range of pet vaccinations for Vancouver pets. Even if they are indoor pets, they can still be at risk of catching diseases. Insects, bats, Raccoons, and other pests seek shelter inside and carry/transmit various infections. Additionally, some animals may have diseases that run in the family and may need additional help fighting them off. Whatever the case, we recommend bringing your pet in for vaccinations at Kerrisdale Veterinary Hospital in Vancouver.
Please call us at 604-266-4171 to discuss updated vaccine protocols as of August 2024. Note that updated vaccine protocols are as follows:

RABIES—To ensure three–year immunity, the vaccine Must be administered before or by the due date. If the date is missed, it will only qualify as a one-year Rabies booster.

Other vaccinations may require boosters 3-4 weeks apart if the due date is missed by 3 months.

Some common illnesses that require vaccinations include:

-
Distemper—This virus weakens the immune system and attacks blood cells. It is fatal and spreads rapidly, so make sure you protect your kitten or puppy against it.
-
Canine parvovirus – A contagious viral disease that attacks cells and can cause cardiovascular problems and even death.
-
Hepatitis – This inflames the liver and causes severe symptoms such as vomiting and fever.
-
Leptospirosis—This is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can be spread to humans and other species. It is generally spread through urine and still water, including puddles and slow streams.
-
Bordetella—This vaccine is recommended to prevent Kennel cough, which is commonly spread through parks, beaches, grooming, and boarding facilities.
-
Lyme—This disease is spread through ticks. We recommend having this vaccine as well as regular tick prevention if you are travelling, taking your dog hiking, or walking in any woodland area.
-
Feline Leukemia—We recommend this vaccination to all outdoor cats. This retrovirus can only be spread through saliva-to-blood contact, and it is spread through an infected cat bite.
-
Rabies – This vaccine is a legal requirement. Rabies is fatal and has no known treatment, so getting a vaccine is essential to protecting your pet. Rabies can also be spread to humans.
Vaccines should be given annually. If you are unsure, please visit our clinic and ask one of our veterinarians for the correct vaccine schedule for your pet.
Pet vaccinations are important, and Vancouver’s Kerrisdale Veterinary Hospital recommends that you bring your cat or dog to our clinic to ensure their well-being.
